Late-Summer Sights

I don't know about you, but I'm having a hard time believing that summer is almost over already.  To me, this year has seemed to fly by and it seems crazy that Sunday is the first day of September!
Late summer/early fall is one of my favourite times of year.  I love everything about this time - specifically the
sights, sounds, and smells of all the farmers getting their crops off.  I enjoy watching the combines and tractors and trucks in the fields.  Nothing compares to the heavy smell of grain dust in the air, mixed with the scent of damp soil and dewy grass.  If the guy next door is harvesting his crop late into the night, I'll leave my window open so I can listen to his machinery while I'm going to sleep.
We haven't quite gotten to that point of the season yet, but I'm looking forward to it.  In the meantime, here are a few pictures I took this week.
On August 24th, I went out and picked a whole bunch of seed pods off of the row of poppies I had this year, then sat on the porch and shook the seeds out of every pod.  When I was finished, I thought it looked kind of neat, with all the different colours of seeds in the bag.

On the morning of the 27th, the sun was shining on the grass and the wheat field and making it look really pretty, so I took a couple pictures of that.

And the last three photos are from this morning.  I got up at 6:30 like usual, and as I was walking past the big front window, I looked out and saw a bit of the sunrise.  What I could see looked quite pretty, so when I went out to feed the animals and let the chickens out, I took my camera with me.  I couldn't focus the camera on the sunrise itself without the whole picture looking white, so I just focused on some darker sky, which made the sunrise slightly blurry but I thought it still looked neat.  Especially how the mountain ash and caragana leaves are framing the whole thing.

After I was happy with the pictures I got, I started walking towards the animal pens.  When I got past the house and the fields came into view, the first thing I saw was some dark brown thing standing in one of the asparagus plots.  I stopped dead because for a split second, I thought it was a coyote.  (Don't ask me why; it was way too big to be a coyote 😂.)
Then I realized it was a deer, at the same time as she lifted her head and looked at me.  I took a couple pictures of her and then she lowered her head and kept eating.  But only for a few seconds, when she looked up at me again.  She clearly knew I was standing there and wasn't sure whether to run or not.  But she didn't actually take off until I walked out from behind the vehicles.  And even then she was just kind of trotting fast, not a full-out run.  So that was kind of neat to see!

Beautiful pictures, Leah! I love how the trees framed the sunrise pictures! Like you, I've also been enjoying the machines on the fields and watching the crops go from green to golden yellow. My heart sinks every time I see crops that are a brownish colour because I know those have been sprayed. Your wheat field looks great! The poppy seeds remind me of my growing up years, we often had them too. Thanks for posting.

I wonder if you plant all the seed you harvest from the poppies?
The sunrise pics are stunning. You must love going out in the early morning to do chores.
The deer was standing so tall and regal and the lighting made her color beautiful..
