I'd been watching an online northern lights forecast, and they'd been predicting high chances of northern lights this week for several days, so I was fully expecting to see some. On the evening of November 11th, my mom and my sister Caroline went out onto the deck to try to locate one of the planets. Then I heard Caroline calling me from the patio door. "Leah, come and look at this! Hurry!"
So I headed out there and saw not just green northern lights, but bright, vivid red ones as well! I have never seen red aurora borealis that bright before. It looked like we would probably be able to see them better if we ran up the road a ways so that we were out from behind the shield of trees, so I grabbed my camera and Caroline and I took off up the road. When we got out from behind the trees, we could see the whole long ribbon of red from the northwest--as well as swirling green to the east-southeast of us. It was incredible! And the streak of red was meeting in a starburst pattern directly above our heads, which was beautiful as well. I was snapping pictures left and right. I apologize for the fuzzy quality of these pictures (my camera is really old and doesn't take great night shots), but at least you can see the colours, which is more than I can say for the last few times I tried taking pictures of the northern lights. Did anyone else have the privilege of seeing that beautiful display? Let me know in the comments!

Oh Wow!! That must have been phenomenal, we were cloudy. The border guard said he would watch for them. I'll be asking if he was able to take in the light show..
