Farm Update

For the majority of spring, it's been pretty dry.  North of us there have been a lot of wildfires burning.  And the other day, I was coming up the driveway in the vehicle . . . going 7kmph . . . and still very visibly kicking up dust.
On Monday, we were preparing to go out and pick asparagus for the first time this year.  We were getting the shop ready for packaging - and then it started raining, and did so for a short while.  Just enough to make the surface of the fields muddy.  So we put off the asparagus cutting for a couple of hours in hopes that the fields would dry out a bit, and they did.
Since that was our first cutting, there wasn't much asparagus, so we were already done three out of four of the plots when it started to rain again - and this time, it rained extremely hard.  It's not often when the rain is coming down hard enough that the drops actually hurt.
We managed to finish the last plot and went back to the shop.  Then the clouds started dropping little ice pellets mixed in with the rain.  The ice only lasted a short time before it was gone and only the rain was falling.
It rained on and off for the rest of the day while we washed and packaged the asparagus.

At one point during the day, I took my camera and went outside to get a few pictures.  While I was looking around for nice photography spots, I ended up noticing that the plum tree has little white flower buds all over it.  I was excited about that, because those plum blossoms smell so wonderful!
Aside from the one nice cluster of plum blossoms I found that were already open, I took multiple other pictures, but I've picked out my favourites to share today.

Yesterday we got another on-and-off shower for part of the day, and now we're praying that God would send all of those rain showers up to where the fires are going.
Today will be our second asparagus cutting of this year, and aside from that, planting season is about to start, so I'll be back soon with another update!

So, back on Saturday, we got our pigs for this year!  They're pretty cute, although they're already shoving each other around a lot.
They will be ready this fall, and if you're interested in some meat, you can use the contact form to reserve your order for a half hog or a whole hog.

Photo of the Month: April

Another double-up!  This top one was taken on April 17; I think that was the first actual rainstorm we got.  (One day at the beginning of April, it was snowing again - but we could see lightning and hear thunder at the same time, which was really weird.)
Anyway, I just always think that storm clouds look awfully neat, especially when they're still a little bit off in the distance like that.

And another beautiful sunset that we were privileged to see!  I took this one just last night.

Stay tuned, because our pigs arrived on Saturday, and I'll probably do a post about them sometime this week!
