Special Delivery!

Well, even though it snowed again (after it was all almost completely melted) we're starting to gear up for planting time.  This morning our potato seed delivery arrived, and while I didn't get any pictures of the pallets being unloaded, I did grab my camera after they were all settled.
My brother was sort of unofficially named Pallet-Jack Handler for this job.  My dad used the tractor to bring the pallets from the delivery truck that was sitting on the road, and then Jonathan would bring them inside the building with the pallet-jack and line them up against the wall.

Dad cut all the plastic wrap away to allow the airflow to get to the potatoes.  If we left the plastic wrap on and it  started harbouring moisture, we could end up with a ton of rotten potatoes.

And there's our row of potato pallets.  Altogether there are 144 sacks, each 50lbs.  And there are four different kinds of potatoes... Satina (yellow), Norland (red), Alaska Bloom (white), and Colomba (yellow).  All now waiting to be planted in a few weeks, and I'll post about it when we begin planting!

Photos of the Month: March

Well, spring is finally here, which means planting time and asparagus season are just around the corner... but we're still waiting for the rest of the snow to melt.
Until then, here are the March photos I chose.  This top one was back on March 11, shortly after the sun came up.  There was a thin sheet of fog in the west, just hovering there right above the field, and it looked really neat.

Then on March 24, we saw this.  The snow had melted just enough to have that glossy, smooth look on the surface.  When the sun set, the way it reflected off of the snow was making me think of an ocean sunset.  And I thought it was pretty interesting how the reflection was perfectly centered between our plum tree and the raspberry bushes.

And finally, just for laughs, here's a picture I got of Dragon, also on the 11th.  I'm not entirely sure what on earth he was doing, but it looked pretty funny.
