This winter has been different, that's for sure. It was cold and snowy in December, and then pretty much all of January and a good chunk of February, the weather was acting like it was April. Most of the snow melted, it was above zero, and there was a general feeling that winter was over. Mom even saw some ducks flying over.

Backing up to Christmas Day already, there was hoarfrost all over everything that morning. And now today again, there was more frost--but it was the craziest thing. I've never seen frost like this here before! It was almost like there was hoarfrost already on everything, and then snow fell and somehow connected with the frost. I'm not even
Well, I got my wish! This past Wednesday we got about a foot of snow all at once. Then the wind kicked up on Thursday and Friday and blew in a ton of huge snow drifts. The field looked like oceans with all the drifts out there. Our neighbour's field looks like it's full of white sand dunes.
. . . at least a foot. All we've gotten is half an inch or something at a time, and then it melts over the next few days. But it's been snowing all morning, so maybe we'll have a nice amount by this evening.
In the meantime, here's another batch of pictures from around the farm. Enjoy! I'd been watching an online northern lights forecast, and they'd been predicting high chances of northern lights this week for several days, so I was fully expecting to see some.
On the evening of November 11th, my mom and my sister Caroline went out onto the deck to try to locate one of the planets. Snow has been in the forecast on and off for the last couple of weeks and never came to pass, so I think several people were surprised when it started snowing early Friday morning. (But it's supposed to be 11°C on Monday. This is Canada, all right.)
I saved most of the best sunflower pictures I took this summer/fall, and I've been meaning to do this post for a while.
Although sunflowers aren't my top favourite flower, they're probably a close second. They have many different colour patterns and they are so bright and cheerful-looking, it's hard not to enjoy them. (And this year a few of Every year, to me it seems like the colder it gets, the more variety we have in the sky. I've found that some of the best sunrises and sunsets occur in the winter--maybe that's just because the sun rises so late and sets so early that I'm actually awake to see them, but either way they're beautiful.
I did not mean to let so much time pass between blog posts. I have a lot to share from the last month and a half, but right now I'm just going to post the pictures I took between August 8th and 28th. FLOWERS
